"The S'Jimbo Legacy" by Miebar S'Jimbo

In the days before Rogue Squadron, when the New Republic was in its infancy, the fleet contained little more than Mon Calamari Cruisers. To match, they had Mon Calamari operating on many of them. One of these brave souls was Reynald S'Jimbo, and this is his legacy.

"Admiral, Imperial forces have been spotted entering the system. Your orders sir?"

"Send in the Peacekeeper, S'Jimbo can handle a VSD."

"Yes sir!" The young ensign taps the console a few times, sending engagement orders to an MC-80 Cruiser. The Peacekeeper.

The Peacekeeper

"Sir, engagement orders from the Admiral!"

The sound of his communications officer's voice always meant the same thing to Reynald; action. He did not need to hear the message before throwing orders of his own around. Moments later the ship's comm sounded with his voice, "All personnel, battle stations!"

Without orders, like a well-tuned machine, the Peacekeeper went into lightspeed towards the Imperial VSD. On exit, battle began.

Aboard the Admiral's ship

"Admiral, Peacekeeper has engaged the enemy. No sign of further Imperial reinforcement."

"Thank you ensign." The Admiral's eyes were fixed on the viewscreen, curious as to why a lone VSD would enter New Republic space. Could it be a trap? The Empire was known for its deceit in battle...

As if to answer the Admiral's curiosity, two Imperial Star Destroyers enter the system, this time closer to the Admiral's forces. "Sir-"

"I see them Ensign!" The Admiral snapped, "All personnel to battle stations!"

The Peacekeeper

"It's a trap! Maintain fire on the VSD, bomber squadron delta assist the Admiral with your hyperdrives!"

S'Jimbo's mind returned to serving with the alliance as a younger man. The Empire never changes its tactics. "We have them this time, we did then and we now..."

The VSD was taking heavy damage, shields down to 20% of maximum. "Target the engines! Torpedoes from the X-Wings too! We need to help the Admiral!"

Lead ISD

"My lord, incoming bomber squadron!"

"It does not matter, our VSD has the MC-80 busy long enough for us to kill the Admiral and leave. Those wet droids and traitors can't defeat three Imperial ships to two of theirs."

"Very well my lord. What are your next orders?"

"Concentrate fire on the Admiral's bridge. The rest of the ship isn't worth our time."

"Yes, my lord."

The Peacekeeper

The young ensign lets out a cheer of victory, if only for a moment. "Sir, shields to 0%, engines disabled. VSD is a now a sitting duck! Shall we finish them off sir?"

"No, of course not. Set course to assist the Admiral. Let them steam in their own juices for a while. Maybe we will get some good recruits from it." Reynald grins, knowing the Imperials will be expecting a quick death by the Republic's hands. "That is, those who survive the punishment for such an embarrassing failure."

A chuckle from the Ensign is followed by the lurch of lightspeed.

Aboard the Admiral's ship

"Sir, VSD disabled and the Peacekeeper has entered lightspeed to assist."

"Hahaha! I knew old S'Jimbo could do it! The crafty old fish still has it!"

The Admiral's MC-90 was taking heavy damage from the 2 ISDs, and wouldn't last much longer. When the Peacekeeper exited hyper it immediately open fired on the closest one. The Admiral heard, in a rather sarcastic tone, "Looks like you could use some help stranger. I'd be happy to oblige!" This brought a smirk to the Admiral's face. The cavalry had arrived.

The two ships disabled the already weak ISD with haste, a full spread of fire leaving it without engines and a few decks of crew. The second ISD soon made a sharp turn and prepared the hyperdrive.

"Should we stop them sir?"

"No, let them suffer the pain of returning. S'Jimbo enjoys letting one go. They may be worse off this way."

The comm buzzes with the voice of, surprise, S'Jimbo. "Good fighting Admiral, shall we?"

A smirk from the Admiral was all that came. After a moment's pause the Ensign responded, "I think that is a yes, sir."

Aboard the VSD

Hadrian, a young Imperial Gunner, was at his post. He watched as his ship was disabled and he waited for his death. Yet, it never came. He looked through his scope, and found two large Mon Calamari Cruisers heading towards him. This came down to a choice, fire and die. Not fire and be executed. Defect.

Fifty years in the future..

Hadrian now has grandchildren serving in the New Republic Military. He retired to a nice home on Corellia, but has been diagnosed with Space Influenza. The doctor gave him 3 months.
