Biography: Collins was born on Coruscant and grew up in a middle class home. His parents were active members in a resistance cell and when the Emperor's death was announced on Coruscant, they were part of a mob that attempted to tear down a statue. Stormtroopers opened fire, killing both of his parents. A friend in the resistance took him in, and he provided a good deal of assistance when the New Republic took the planet. He was later commissioned into the New Republic Military as a Colonel in command of a line regiment. He was promoted to Brigadier and given command of the 3rd Army Division that was recently assigned to Farpoint.
