Operation Dark Corner

Mission Leader: Anton "Viper" Moore

Mission Classification: Lima VI Recon

Mission Transcript: [Available]

Briefing:
From what Davie's holorecordings show, we know the glyphs for the next stop on our search. Our Research department has been able to decide on an inverse spectrum order for the glyphs, and tests show the co-ordinates to be valid. More importantly, this planet doesn't appear on the Abydos Cartouche, so it's probable that the Goa'uld do not know of its existence.

Further research shows that this most likely is not the final resting place of the Holy Grail, but another waypoint in the journey. The ancient tablets and manuscripts tell of a stone marker tablet that should be located within a cave near to the stargate. Our translations of the manuscripts stolen from Alpha Centauri show that two markers will dictate the path the final resting place of the Grail.

We believe this to be the final marker.

The target planet, designated P9Z-008, appears to be barren and rocky. Initial observations show no native plant or animal life, and the sky appears to be perpetually overcast, creating a very dim atmosphere. This could possibly explain the absence of native flora and fauna. Drone flights have pinpointed a possible location for the cave entrance about 1.5km south of the stargate.

Report:
Our initial reconnaissance of the area went without incident. Atomic and Corry were left behind to guard the gate while the rest of us went off in search of the cave entrance. We encountered two marking stones that lead us to the mouth of the cave entrance. Once located, we made our way down into the depths of the cave where Thorn set off something that sent the stalactites falling on our heads.

I managed to find a map of the cave system inscribed into the wall, and translations showed that there was a hidden passage somewhere behind us.

Once we located the entrance to this hidden chamber, Miles was given some explosives and let loose. He made short work of the obstructing rock.

Inside we found several ancient artifacts, including a shield that had been inscribed as the second grail marker. As Thorn was busy scanning holos of the chamber and the grail maker, Atomic reported that a Ha'tak had just landed near the gate.

The Goa'uld had apparently managed to locate the world, and were in search of the same grail marker. Miles was once again let loose with explosives, since there was no way we were going to let the information contained within the room fall into Goa'uld hands.

The charges were set on a delay timer and we all made a break for it. The gate being blocked, Atomic suggested an alternate escape rout. Two Al'kesh mid-sized assault ships had landed halfway between the cave and the gate.

We assaulted both, with Atomic and Corry hitting them from one side, Thorn and Miles from another, and Glantry, Davie, and myself attacking from yet a third angle.

Both ships were captured, and after a small scale aerial battle between us and several death gliders and a bombing run on the Ha'tak mothership, we broke orbit and jumped to hyperspace.
